Did you know…
It is hard to deny our German Shepherds the joy of being able to play on the beach. Unfortunately, there may be some undesirable potential negative consequences of taking him to the beach, such as beach diarrhea.
Beach diarrhea in dogs is often caused by drinking salt water, which then leads to vomiting and dehydration. If your dog consume salt water he may experience large bowel diarrhea due to the cathartic effects of salt.
So what can you do to prevent this from happening to your beloved GSD? The answer is simple, frequently offer or administer fresh water to your dog while on the beach.
It is recommended to carry a small bowl, particularly the one your dog is familiar with for this purpose. If he refuses to drink on his own, administer small quantities of water directly to his mouth.
Also remember to take a break every every 15 minutes or so to allow your dog to sit or lay down in a shaded area and for him to re-hydrate.
Avoiding beach diarrhea in your GSD will make the beach experience more fun for both you and your dog.
