What Causes Dry Nose

Your German Shepherd’s nose tends to be wet when he’s healthy because an alert dog frequently licks his nose.
Also, dogs have special mucous glands inside their nostrils that produce a clear watery fluid that helps in their cooling process. A wet nose also help boost your dog’s sense of smell.

While wet nose is commonly a sign of good health in dogs, dry nose is not always a sign of poor health. Your pal’s nose change temperature throughout the day too. His nose may be dry but not due to illness.

One possible cause of dry nose in dogs is the environment. For instance, when you play with him outside and the weather is warmer than usual, his nose may dry out. Extended exposure to direct sunlight can cause some damage on your dog’s nose. Poor air circulation during winter may as well dry out his nose and cause it to crack over time.

If you see symptoms like nasal discharge or cracked skin, you should immediately take your buddy to his vet as these may be signs of illness.
