How to Know If Your Dogs Are Just Playing or Fighting
Dog play can be easily confused with fighting, especially if you don’t have a good understanding of canine body language. Two adult dogs playing may sometimes appear rougher than it really is. Remember, play sessions can escalate to fights, particularly if your pal is not well-socialized.
It can be quite difficult for many people to determine when playing turns to fighting. It is very important that you supervise your buddies as they play. Canines that are in play mood are generally loose and flowing. They tend to switch places as top and bottom dog. They might bite each other around the neck and head but it’s not that hard enough to be able to break skin.
When the dogs begin to fight, they usually tighten up and their posture becomes rigid. One or both dogs will also stand and try to appear larger. One dog may also be more aggressive and the other will be pinned down. When you start to notice these signs, intervene to prevent the fight from escalating.
