Keeping Your GSD’s Coat Clean and Smooth

Do you have a Shepherd that loves to play in the mud? One tip to easily clean him is to let the mud dry first. Dried mud can be brushed out much easier. Also, if your Shepherd’s hair is long, you must be quite vigilant in terms of brushing as they are more prone to matting and tangling than those with double coat.

Twigs, mud, and other small debris can lead to a matted mess if you don’t regularly brush your buddy’s coat. If your GSD happen to have such matted mess, you can use pick it apart using a standard comb or a dematting comb. If you feel it’s not enough, you have to get the service of a professional groomer as it may require shaving off the dog’s coat.

To care for your GSD’s coat, you can use a regular bristle brush. Although such kind of brush may miss the undercoat. Once a week brushing is recommendd for the adult, double-coated GSDs, while the long-haired shepherds may need to receive daily brushing.
