Why and How to Cook for Your GSD
Many dog owners these days are choosing natural pet food. Because of the recent pet food poisoning scare from popular dog food manufacturers, many dog owners are greatly concerned about feeding their pets commercial dog food. Plenty of owners shifted to feeding their dogs home-cooked meals.
In cooking your GSD’s food, remember that his diet needs to have about 40% meat, 30% vegetables, and 30% starch. With a few exceptions, you can simply blend human foods in this proportion to meet your dog’s nutritional requirements.
Also consider that before you start switching to homemade dog food, you must first check with your vet to ensure that you’ll feed him what he needs. You can ask for some recipes and take notes if your vet give extra advice for you.
Finally, if your GSD has been on a strict commercial dog food diet, you’d first need to mix his usual dog food with the homemade stuff you cooked to transition him over.
