Where to Get Your Next German Shepherd

Planning to get a new German Shepherd puppy? One of the most important things you need to consider is where to get your German Shepherd from. There are plenty of options, but remember that many local pet shops are often not the most reliable option. Pet stores usually get their puppies from puppy mills, which are disreputable breeders that force dogs to breed faster. They often produce pups with high risk for behavioral and health issues.

Some pet stores that get their animals from good breeders are often unable to provide a healthy and happy temporary home for the pups. Some even drug the dogs they sell to make them more attractive to customers. And of course, many dogs for sale are being kept in very small cages.

The best way to find a really reputable breeder is through referral. Ask your veterinarian or trusted friends, or try to contact local breed clubs, or check out professional dog shows. Responsible breeders will never sell their dogs through pet stores. He or she will ensure that the puppy will be in good hands.
