What To Do When Your German Shepherd Has Diarrhea

These two dogs are having so much fun playing in the water. I hope they didn’t ingest any water from the falls though.

First Aid for Dog Diarrhea

If your GSD accidentally ingest some contaminated water as he plays in bodies of water like a pond, falls or lake, you should watch for any signs of diarrhea. Diarrhea is often caused by parasites in your dog’s stomach. Your initial plan of action should be to flush them out.

Give him only water for the first 24 hours that you notice the signs of diarrhea. This will help him flush out the bacteria, parasites, and fungi inside his stomach. Also, water is key to keep him hydrated.

If you would feed him, make sure to offer a bland diet. It is recommended to feed him with only boiled rice and skinless chicken. Do not give him any oily and salty food, or those filled with preservatives.

Antibiotics will also help but you need to call your veterinarian first for the correct dosage for your pal.

Note that this is only first aid treatment for dog diarrhea. It is still best to keep in contact with your vet, especially if your pet’s diarrhea continues for more than 24 hours.
