Socializing Your Older Dog With Other Animals
It is extremely important that you socialize your older dog to other animals. The best way is through positive association. You can use treats whenever another dog or animal comes into sight. Do not give you pal his treat if he’s being aggressive or reactive. Continually praise and reward your buddy whenever he behaves well and observes a non-reactive behavior.
You want your GSD to be peaceful with other animals as this will help keep him safe too. For instance, you own a cat as well. You want your dog to get along with your own cat and ignore the other cats. Note that a feline’s claws may carry lots of bacteria, which means cat scratches may be dangerous for your dog.
