Effective Ways to Keep Your Dog Cool

Our dogs have more trouble staying cool in the summer than we do. To keep them happy and safe, here are some tips to help them cool down during the fatally hot months.

  • Keep your GSD well sheltered. Make sure that your beloved pooch is always resting in the shade. It is best to put your dog’s bed on elevated or cool surfaces to help keep him cool during the summer. Also, if your dog usually stays outside, it is best to allow him to get inside the house during hot days as the temperature inside the house is better. Or if you really don’t want your pet inside the house, make sure that he stays in shaded areas in the backyard. Protect him from direct sunlight.
  • Provide fresh, cool water regularly. Ensure that your pal have access to fresh, cool water at all times. If he stays outside, make sure his water dish is in a shady location and that you change the water as frequent as possible.
  • Let him swim. Pools can also help keep your dog cool. If your GSD loves water, then you might let him have fun in a large tub or kiddie pool in your yard. Most dogs enjoy playing in the cool water, but never leave him alone in the water. Always supervise. You might also want to try running a sprinkler.
  • Have your daily exercise with your dog early in the morning or at night. This will make the walks more comfortable for both you and your dog.
  • Try to offer some frozen treats. This will also help your dog stay cool during hot months.
