Tips to Help Your GSD Cool Down
Just like us humans, our dogs also need to cool down after a run, long walk, or playing fetch. Here are a few simple tips for a proper post-workout cool down.
Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate!
Whenever you take your dog outside for a long walk or hike, be sure to take along fresh water for the both of you. Regularly stop for water breaks. Always monitor your dog and stop whenever he’s panting. Although it is important to keep him hydrated, only allow him to drink just enough water to quench his thirst. Don’t let him gulp large amounts of water as this may upset his stomach.
Slow Down
Just like what we do to cool down, gradually slow down toward the end of your walk, run, or hike. Simply walk casually for a few minutes to allow your pal’s body temperature and heart beat to slow down as well. You can also give your buddy some nice muscle rub or help him stretch her limbs.
Foot Care
Donât forget to check your dog’s toe pads and nails after having a great time outside. Note that dogs have high tolerance for pain, so it might not be obvious at first that he’s injured. Inspect his feet for any cuts, cracks, blisters, or dirt. If possible, wash his feet and dry them before checking them over. If ever you see any serious damage, check with your veterinarian immediately.
